Last week, Senator Lisa Murkowski introduced a bill to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling for oil and gas. And because the legislation is part of the budget reconciliation process, it’s filibuster-proof and only needs a simple majority to win.
Not only would opening up the Refuge be bad for this unique haven for Alaska’s threatened wildlife, it’s also no good for the climate. We need less oil and gas if we want to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, not new places to look for more. This week, take action by calling your Senators and asking them to oppose any legislation that allows drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
And while you’re at it, consider calling Murkowski’s office and telling her that drilling in Alaska is bad for everyone: (202)-224-6665
