Are You Still In?
Last week marks the anniversary of President Trump’s official announcement to pull out of the Paris Agreement. Every other country on the planet has agreed to uphold this climate change accord.
But other leaders in the U.S. haven’t give up. Last week also marked the first birthday of the “We Are Still In” coalition, which has now been joined by nine states: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington.
This week, act on climate by helping to grow this coalition even more.
If you live in a state that’s not mentioned above, write to your governor and urge him or her to join We Are Still In. You can write something like this (although it’s always best to personalize letters to your public officials):
Dear Governor [INSERT NAME],
It has been one year since President Trump began the process of pulling the United States out of the Paris Agreement. However, his action doesn’t change the fact that climate change will affect people here in [YOUR STATE] and all Americans. That’s why we need to work together to find solutions. Many people agree with me, including the governors of California, Connecticut, Hawaii, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington, who have all joined the We Are Still In coalition. I’m writing to you today to urge you to join them. Learn more at WeAreStillIn.org.
If you live in a state that’s already part of the agreement or you live outside the U.S., consider writing a letter to an American business that hasn’t signed on yet, and urge them to join. Companies care about how their customers see them! Check out the list of businesses that have already signed here.
