By Mariana Garcia and Ben Silkey, campaigners for CarbonWA
Two years ago, a group of students, professors and concerned citizens launched a grassroots campaign with an urgent goal: to create a policy that’s fair, effective, and politically feasible. They collected more than 360,000 signatures in order to get it on the ballot this November and now Washington state voters have the unique opportunity to put a real price on carbon pollution!
Modeled after British Columbia’s successful carbon tax-swap policy, I-732 encourages clean energy solutions by shifting the tax burden onto carbon pollution and away from regressive and burdensome taxes that hurt families and businesses. I-732 holds polluters accountable for their damage, ensuring that our children and grandchildren inherit a livable future.
