Why is it so incredibly cold outside if the globe is supposed to be warming? The answer is simple — it may be cold where you live, but it doesn’t mean it’s cold everywhere.
The the entire U.S. makes up only 6.1% of global land area. Global temperatures were actually .5 degrees celsius above average on December 28th, 2017, when President Trump saw cold temperatures across the east coast and tweeted about “the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record.” Globally 2017 was the second warmest year on record. Since 2000, the world has seen 17 of the top 18 warmest years on record. So as you bundle up your coat and head out into the snow, wind and cold, don’t lose sight of the big picture.
