The UK’s historic churches are at risk due to climate change. More rainfall, invasive pests such as termites, and stronger winds threaten the integrity of church buildings across the UK. In 2017, @nationalchurchestrust reported they had a 26% increase in applications for grants from churches that needed urgent repairs. The chief executive of the trust, Claire Walker, cautioned that “higher levels of rainfall in the UK, such as the 20% increase seen in Scotland since the 1960s… will cause damage to timber and stonework”.
