Take a second to read this post! Just 5 minutes could help you make THE DIFFERENCE the world needs. This week’s post is by Allyson Masunaga Goto, a student campaigner who attends Brown University and is part of the campaign to put a price on carbon in Rhode Island. “Growing up in Colorado an appreciation for nature is something that becomes inherent to your very being. It is a feeling hard to explain, but like the blood that runs through your veins: it is always there, and it continues to inspire me. This feeling gives me the energy to fight for climate change solutions despite how difficult the road may seem. When I think about the ways the environment intertwines within the fabric of our global issues and is often the basis of issues concerning social justice, it is apparent that climate change is the greatest threat we have ever faced and something we can no longer ignore.
For me, putting a pricing on carbon pollution, is one of the most basic steps we need to take to #ActOnClimate.
This semester I have had the privilege to work on carbon pricing legislation in Rhode Island with the @EnergizeRI coalition. We are helping to cultivate a regional movement of people asking their legislators to #PutAPriceOnIt and momentum is growing. As young people we have the power to demand change and it is time that we do! We will join other citizens at the RI State Capitol on April 25th for ECRI Lobby Day, advocating for the Energize RI Act that puts a fee on fossil fuels and returns the revenue to the people and businesses of RI. Additionally, we are leading the charge in the People’s Climate Mobilization in RI on April 29th also at the RI State Capitol.”
