Happy Sunday! Remember every Sunday I am donating my social media to my @YearsofLiving team so they can share their personal stories about how carbon pricing can and will solve climate change! PLEASE take a second to read their posts. It’s five minutes out of your Sunday that will help you make a difference, THE DIFFERENCE, the world needs. Today’s post comes from Shana Gallagher and it is SO powerful. Wow Shana… “I know what it feels like to lose everything. Everything that makes life worth living. I’ve had a few close calls with my mortality in my 22 years, but sustaining a brain injury a little over a year ago that left me unable to read, express myself, be around bright lights and loud noise, or continue the “normal” life I’d been leading was the sort of wake-up call that few people are able to experience, and come back from.
My recovery in many ways has been miraculous, and still somewhat mysterious, but more than anything it has clarified my motivation for environmental justice. The climate crisis continues because of the psychological reality of this challenge: if we, as individuals and a society, truly confronted the damage we’ve done to nature and each other, it would be paralyzing in many of the same ways my brain injury was. But now, having been reminded so tangibly and forcefully what we stand to lose – the fundamental joy of life on the one planet we have – I am more driven than ever to keep fighting for it using the best tool we have: a price on carbon.
Economists agree that a price on carbon is the most effective way to reduce emissions, and begin to address some of the inexcusable externalities of burning fossil fuels. I am thrilled and honored to be working with students across the country on the #PutAPriceOnIt campaign, and leveraging my privilege and the second chance I’ve been given to fight for each other, our Earth, and a price on carbon.” Join us at Facebook.com/putapriceonit
