We all know that lowering our carbon footprint is important, but we won’t solve climate change without working together to shut off smokestacks too.
Plastic pollution is pretty much the same. We should all strive to reduce our use, recycle and clean up public places. However, if we really want plastic pollution to go away – along with the emissions associated with making plastic – we need to urge corporations to take action too.
A number of global brands have pledged their commitment to fixing this problem by improving their packaging. But until we see real changes hit the shelves in our local stores, it’s important to keep up the public pressure.
This week, sign the Greenpeace petition urging Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Mars, Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Colgate-Palmolive, Johnson and Johnson, and Danone to cut their plastic footprints. You can also raise awareness about this issue by leaving comments on their social media pages.
