Last month, a group of scientists published a scientific paper calling on global governments to create a “Global Deal for Nature,” that would protect and restore half of Earth’s land and oceans. The plan would also strengthen land rights for indigenous communities.
The Global Deal for Nature would be created under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and would go hand-in-hand with the Paris Agreement. Already, NGOs and indigenous leaders have rallied behind this proposal, which would help solve both climate change and the extinction crisis that a million species are facing.
