This past week, Twitter made the announcement that they’re ending political advertising on their platform, including the kinds of “issue”-based ads that Exxon Mobil is running in response to New York State’s attorney general bringing charges against the company.
It’s time that all fossil fuel advertisements come to an end. Even in publications that do a good job covering climate change, like The Washington Post and The New York Times, big polluters are buying “native advertisements” that look like real articles and actively confuse readers.
It’s time for this to stop. Sign the petition below to send a message to major publishers and social media companies that misinformation about the climate has no place in their pages, on their platforms or their channels — even if it is clearly labeled as an ad.
