End The Fires
Ten years ago, the Consumer Goods Forum, BlackRock, MUFG, BNI, Santander, Procter & Gamble, Mondelēz, Mars, Nestlé, and Unilever all promised to end deforestation by 2020. Yet 2020 is on track to be another tragic year of unacceptable forest loss. Over 500 illegal fires have been set in the Amazon Rainforest, and many of these fires are started to clear land for agricultural commodities destined for the international market.
This week, sign the petition from Amazon Watch demanding that these businesses honor their word. Corporations like these have a huge amount of influence over their supply chains, and they can be a major force in pushing the Brazilian government to act, and use their buying power to end harmful practices on the ground.
