Volkswagen, Toyota, and Volvo have all made big announcements about their plans to build clean, climate-friendly electric cars in the future.
But if they want to go green, why are they also fighting fuel-efficiency standards?
These automakers are members of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a trade association. Right now, the Alliance is lobbying the U.S. government to throw out rules that would cut tailpipe pollution and save drivers money. They’re betting that in the short-term, they can still profit more off of gas-guzzlers, even if that means worse climate change and harms human health.
Today, call these car companies out, and tell them to stop driving backwards on climate. Ask them to pressure the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers’ to end it’s campaign against fuel-efficiency standards.
