UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stands in solidarity with the people of Paris who are unable to join a climate march today.
The Secretary-General has donated a pair of his “marching shoes” to be placed at the city’s Place de la République, near the scene of the terror attack of Friday 13 November, and where the climate march originally planned for today was due to start.
His note reads: “As the world gathers in Paris to stand up for climate action, let us also stand in the shoes of all victims of terrorism, war and persecution… and respond with compassion.” After this event, the thousands of shoes contributed will be donated to NGOs working with Syrian refugees.
