Trump is pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement, but leaders all across the country say they’re staying in. So far, 12 states and Puerto Rico have joined the U.S. Climate Alliance. In addition, over 120 mayors of U.S. cities and towns, and hundreds of American business, schools and institutional investors are pledging their support of climate action in an open letter to the rest of the world.
“In the absence of leadership from Washington, states, cities, colleges and universities, businesses and investors, representing a sizable percentage of the U.S. economy will pursue ambitious climate goals, working together to take forceful action and to ensure that the U.S. remains a global leader in reducing emissions,” they write.
Is your state and town on the list? If so, thank your state governor and/or local mayor. If not, ask them to join, by calling or writing. Start by introducing yourself. Then, you can say something like this:
“I’m deeply disappointed the President of the United States has decided to leave the Paris Agreement on climate change. But I’m encouraged that nine states and over one hundred U.S. mayors have committed to cutting pollution and solving climate change. I hope you will join them by joining the U.S. Climate Alliance and signing onto the open letter at WeAreStillIn.com. Thank you.”
